A Story That Began in 1851

About Rose & Barn Country Cottages

The story of Rose & Barn began in 1851, when Irish settlers Mary Ann and William Adams established Rosehill Farm in the fertile foothills of Cambewarra. Like many pioneering families of the time, they built a modest timber cottage that became home to the couple and their four children. Today, that original home still stands as Rose Cottage, preserving an important part of the property’s history and offering guests the opportunity to stay in accommodation that traces its origins back to the earliest years of European settlement in the district.

Over the next 175 years, Rosehill Farm passed through several generations and owners. As the Shoalhaven region developed, parts of the original farmland were gradually subdivided and sold, leaving the one-acre property that is now known as Rose & Barn Country Cottages. While the property has evolved over time, it continues to honour its farming heritage and country character.

Today, Rose & Barn offers three unique accommodation options, each with its own style and history.

Rose Cottage is the original settlers’ home, carefully maintained and updated with modern comforts while retaining its historic charm.

The Farmhouse is the property’s main homestead, offering spacious accommodation with four bedrooms, generous living areas and everything needed for families or larger groups to relax together.

The Barn Cabin has its own unique story. Originally built as a cow shed during the property’s farming years, it has been thoughtfully transformed into a comfortable two-bedroom cabin. While now offering all the conveniences expected by today’s travellers, it still reflects the agricultural heritage that shaped Rosehill Farm for generations.

The three cottages are surrounded by beautifully established gardens, open lawns and inviting outdoor gathering spaces. Guests can enjoy shared meals, celebrate special occasions around the outdoor dining area or simply relax while taking in the peaceful rural surroundings.

One of the things that makes Rose & Barn truly special is its ability to bring people together without sacrificing privacy. Families, friends and groups can enjoy the property as a shared destination while each household has its own private accommodation and quiet spaces to retreat to. Whether gathering in the gardens, enjoying a meal together or spending time apart, the layout provides a balance of connection and personal space that is difficult to find elsewhere.

This unique setting also makes Rose & Barn an ideal venue for creative retreats, wellness workshops, small corporate off-sites and family reunions. With multiple indoor and outdoor spaces, peaceful garden corners and separate accommodation across the property, guests have plenty of room for reflection, creativity and relaxation while remaining close enough to connect and collaborate.
